• When art is downloaded and printed without compensation to the artist, it significantly impacts the artist's ability to make a living as a creator.

We can try, but we can't stop anyone from doing this if they really wanted to.

It's important to really think about what this means - if it becomes a normal practice for everyone, artists won't be able to afford to continue creating art.

Proud Mary

Proud Mary

In “Proud Mary”, I aimed to encapsulate the raw energy and unmatched magnetism of the indomitable Tina Turner. Drawing inspiration from one of her early performances with Ike, this painting became a melodic dance of color, rhythm, and soul.

Every time I approached the canvas, the unforgettable sound of that particular recording would reverberate in my mind, setting my heart racing with the same excitement I feel before an art show. The driving beat, the electrifying guitar riffs, and above all, Tina’s iconic voice became the lifeblood of this creation.

The deep navy tones serve as the backdrop, reminiscent of a night where the only illumination comes from neon lights and the incandescent aura of stars like Tina. Those neon hues, vibrant and unyielding, cut through the navy, embodying the energy of a live performance - the adrenaline, the anticipation, and the sheer power of music that touches the soul.

At the center of it all stands Tina, radiant and resplendent. Her stance, her expression, and even the shimmer of her dress are rendered in such a way that viewers can almost hear her voice, echoing her famous words, “We’ll take the first part nice and easy, and then we’ll make it rough.” This quote perfectly encapsulates the duality present in the piece: the tender beginnings of a song and the explosive crescendo that follows.

With “Proud Mary”, I wanted to do more than just paint a scene. I sought to honor Tina Turner’s legacy, to capture a fleeting moment in time when her voice became an anthem for many, and to create a visual representation of the feelings evoked by a song that has, time and again, rekindled my passion for art. It’s a tribute, a melody frozen in time, and an invitation to feel the rhythm of a song that continues to inspire.
