Peace is a Lie

In “Peace is a Lie,” I aimed to capture the intense and enigmatic presence of Darth Maul, a character whose philosophy and journey are deeply interwoven with the dark side of the Force. The composition is a direct, face-only portrait, eliminating any distractions and forcing the viewer to confront the Sith Lord head-on. This choice was inspired by the climactic battle in The Phantom Menace, where Maul’s prowess and determination are on full display.

Darth Maul’s backstory is a tapestry of darkness and struggle. Raised on Dathomir and taken under the wing of Darth Sidious, Maul’s life was a series of battles and personal tribulations that shaped him into a formidable force user. His adherence to the Sith Code, beginning with the phrase “Peace is a Lie,” not only inspired the title of the painting but also encapsulates the driving force behind his actions.

The selection of reds and browns for the color palette was a deliberate choice to mirror Maul’s facial tattoos and the dark energy he commands. The neon yellow in his eyes serves as a focal point, drawing attention to his intense gaze and malevolent intentions. Employing an impressionist style allowed me to create a visually impactful image that resonates with the essence of the character.

Pearl Linen Postcard - This 3.5"x5" postcard is printed on linen, creating a almost canvas appearance. Between the linen weaves are pearlescent clusters, which increase the contrast of the art.

Holographic Poster - Printed on 8.5"x11" heavy duty card stock, these posters are dipped in holographic foil prior to printing. This enhances all of the darker tones in each painting (especially the line art), bringing subtle shards of iridescent colors when hit with direct light.
