After completing “Against Comic Odds,” a piece featuring Tony without his helmet, I felt a strong desire to create a more traditional portrayal of Iron Man, capturing him in full armor as he dominates the sky. “Neon Iron Pulse” is the result of that desire, showcasing Iron Man soaring through the skies, a repulsor blast at the ready, as he sweeps the sky in search of an enemy. This painting reflects Tony Stark’s dedication and resilience, qualities that define him as a self-made superhero who leverages his intellect and wealth to become the indomitable Iron Man.
I chose to use impressionist brush strokes to infuse the piece with raw energy, creating a palpable sense of movement and urgency. The color palette was particularly important for this work. I used neon blues and purples to contrast dramatically with the traditional fire engine red hues of Iron Man’s armor, highlighting the duality of Tony Stark: the flamboyant billionaire playboy and the selfless, determined hero.
