Libertys Embrace

Libertys Embrace

Upon my return to New York City, the beating heart of diversity and acceptance, I was reminded of the many facets of freedom one evening. That night was different, a blend of reunion, hope, and nostalgia, all under the umbrella of Pride Month. As the evening progressed amidst the colorful streets of Manhattan, connections were made, laughter was shared, and as often happens in the city that never sleeps, I found myself on the ferry back to Staten Island.

And there she stood, “Liberty’s Embrace,” the iconic silhouette of the Statue of Liberty. Illuminated under the moonlit sky, her oxidized copper hue seemed to glow with an otherworldly light. It wasn’t my first encounter with her, but after years, seeing her at night evoked feelings of profound gratitude and warmth. In her towering presence, I felt embraced, safe, as if she was a beacon reassuring me of my choice to return to this liberal sanctuary.

Through the medium of impressionistic strokes, I’ve tried to encapsulate that very sentiment. The blending of colors, the play of light and shadow, all endeavor to pay tribute to the statue’s foundational ethos. Her very being symbolizes the promise of a land where all, regardless of origin, creed, or identity, should feel safe, loved, and welcomed.

“Liberty’s Embrace” isn’t just a portrait of a monument; it’s a reflection of my personal journey and a testament to the enduring spirit of inclusivity that the Statue of Liberty represents. In a world rife with divisions, may this painting serve as a reminder of the embracing arms of liberty, waiting to hold us all.
